Club Weekend Sailing Trip

Sailing Weekend in the Wadden Sea with Our Tennis Club

Every year, our tennis club organizes a 2- to 3-day summer trip for members across all teams. This time, a sailing trip was on the agenda. The idea came from four players on our men’s team who had previously sailed aboard the“Twister”with TSC. When we arrived in Harlingen in absolutely perfect weather, we had no idea just how great this weekend would turn out to be.

Arrive and Feel at Home

Captain Johan greeted us in a relaxed and warm manner. You can tell right away that he knows what he’s doing. No wonder—he’s been at sea for over 45 years. Together with sailor Nico, who is just as friendly and experienced, we felt right at home from the very first moment. Everything was straightforward, laid-back, and yet professional.
Our first evening in Harlingen was the perfect way to settle in. We sat in the harbor, ate together, chatted, and enjoyed the sunset—and, to be honest, had a lot of fun with the beer tap on deck and the freshly poured beer. The boat behind us, the water ahead, and a whole weekend of sailing right in front of us. You couldn’t ask for a better start.

Special Moments at Sea

The next morning, we set off for the Wadden Sea. We hoisted the sails together with Nico, and off we went. It wasn’t stressful at all—it was just the right mix of getting involved and relaxing. Every now and then, seals even popped up, lying on the sandbars or peeking curiously out of the water. By then, at the very latest, it was clear to everyone just how special this sailing trip was. Another highlight for everyone was the hammock, which can hold 4–5 people at once (by the way, it’s perfect for sobering up—both during the day and at night).

A Day on Terschelling

Our destination was Terschelling. After docking, we rented bikes and explored the island. The beach, the dunes, fresh air, and lots of good cheer. In the evening, we gathered back on board and had a barbecue together. Everyone pitched in—chopping, grilling, or setting the table. Cooking together and sitting around the table like that was one of the best parts of the whole club trip.

See you soon, Noorderlicht!

Unfortunately, the next day we had to head back to Harlingen. One last time sailing, one last time enjoying the Wadden Sea, and one last time experiencing that special feeling of being out on the water together. Time flew by way too fast.

In the end, we all agreed. This sailing trip was more than just an outing. It was a sailing vacation, a club trip, and a true sense of community all rolled into one. The Noorderlicht, Johan, and Nico played a big part in making us feel right at home right away. And the best is saved for last: We’ve already reserved the boat again for next year.
