Frequently asked questions
Here you will find all the important information on the following topics:
Sail along
This varies from ship to ship and depends above all on the nature and behavior of your dog. For example, if there is already a dog on board and your dog does not get along well with others, it is better not to bring him along. In principle, however, bringing dogs on board is not a problem. Just contact us - we will be happy to clarify directly with the ship what is currently possible.
Our sailing boats are of course equipped with all the necessary life-saving equipment, including life jackets, life rafts and inflatable boats. In addition, all skippers and mates have a valid first aid certificate and some also have a lifeguard's license.
Of course you will also find purely vegetarian dishes on our order list. However, if not all of your fellow sailors want to eat vegetarian, we are happy to take individual wishes into account and offer a choice of different dishes.
From very high wind forces (7-8), the skippers decide whether it is still safe to sail depending on the situation. If it is not possible to set sail, there are numerous options in every port to create your own alternative program. Our crew is always on hand to help and advise you.
Fortunately, strong wind days are rare and there are many alternatives, especially with our flat-bottomed ships in the Netherlands: for example, you can sail through canals and Frisian inland waters under sail and motor.
Costs such as final cleaning, additional engine hours, harbor fees and drinks must be paid in cash on board. However, you can request an invoice for drinks directly from the ship and pay them later at your convenience.
Our ships are generally equipped with a beer dispensing system. It is therefore not permitted to bring your own beer on board.
You don't need any sailing skills for our adventures on traditional sailing ships. On the very first day, the crew - skipper and mate - will show you the most important nautical moves, teach you the necessary knots and familiarize you with the special features of the tall ship.
After a few maneuvers, everything will run much more smoothly. And if you feel like it, the skipper will also teach you the basics of navigation - so you'll soon be at the helm yourself and steering the traditional sailing ship safely across the Baltic Sea, the Dutch Wadden Sea or the IJsselmeer - depending on where your journey begins.
Yes, please bring a valid ID or passport with you, as there is a general ID requirement for all cruises. If the regular ID does not arrive in time, a temporary ID is also fine. Please remember to check the validity of your documents before the trip.
The prices shown on the price list apply to the entire ship and include 2 to 3 crew members for the selected period - be it a week, short week, weekend or similar.
At the end of each sailing trip, there is an additional charge for final cleaning on board, which ranges from €100 to €250 depending on the size of the boat.
In the Netherlands, port fees are already included in the price. For tours on the North Sea and Baltic Sea, these fees are charged directly on board and amount to around €55 to €110 per call, depending on the port and ship size.
As the crew are part of the crew, cooking for them on board is part of the package. If you order catering through us, the portions for the crew are already included. If you are catering for yourself, simply plan for one or two additional people.
With your travel documents you will also receive a practical packing list with all the important tips on suitable clothing for your sailing trip.
